Hello there and welcome!
I’m Peter Grey a working Actor in Portland Oregon. I’m not only that, but I’m also this,
A producer of original video content, as well as a seasoned haunt actor. Over the past decade we’ve experimented with under 30 shorts and grew to experiment with and produce other formats like a 4 part mini series that was like 4 shorts all on their own, but with a theme that connects them all. It was so much work!
Plus we got to do some homemade special effects that really taught us cool things like making homemade blood pools of various sizes.
It turns out that Red Stool Productions serves as a haven for underground Actors and Crew to sharpen their skills and produce new content for that ever-important sizzle reel!
SDZ and I have been working here in Portland for the better part of 10 years as a background actor with agency’s like Casting Calls Portland, Adam and the Backrounds, Weeble Mountain and hitting up the gigs section of Craigslist as well as submitting our films to festivals around the country through Film Freeway.
We try to pump out at least one project a year for everyone to work on and do our best at post-production well enough to have it included in a film festival near you!
I’ve added a list of the productions worked on as a background actor / day player and maybe one day I’ll have a line or two in one.
Acting is fun but those roles don’t come along everyday so that was when me, SDZ, and a host of others started picking up the camera and recording some of the original concepts and interesting premises we and some other creators collaborated on. A couple of everyday folks from Lake Erie discovered the wealth of underground talent here in the Pacific Northwest!
Through the years we’ve learned a thing or two about lighting and props along with frame rates and various lens actions that helps us produce festival worthy content but that’s not all! That’s right Peter Grey is not only an actor and producer of festival content, but a seasoned Haunt actor as well!
As for the Haunted House stuff I’ve developed the character of Mr. Seigle who tells jokes and entertains as the other creatures of the night come up and say hi!
I’ve learned a lot from my adventures in Portland and I’m very excited to finish our documentary and go off to the festivals for a while and see how people react to our version of a Documentary. Thanks for your time and attention and as an actor that’s one of the things I love the most!
Background Actor / Day Player Experience
2024 AMAZON TV – Criminal – Day Player- Casino Craps Dealer
An inter-generational story of families connected through shared criminal history.
Tales From the Set: This was a call out for not only Actors but experienced and working casino dealers as well. So, I’ve learned that working on a set like this can go on forever and what do you think happens when you gather a bunch of degenerate gamblers together in a mid- sized classroom? A hell of a good time is what!
Everyone brought something to do to pass the time, some brought dice, some brought very artistic decks of cards and one person even brought a large piece of green felt for players to deal on top of. It was a grueling 3 week shoot and one day lasted for 15 hours, but it was a good time and one of my favorite as a Day Player in Portland Or.
2023 Paramount + – My Dead Friend Zoe– Cast as Homeless Vet.
Engaged in a mysterious relationship with her dead best friend from the Army, a female Afghanistan veteran comes head to head with her Vietnam vet grandfather at the family’s ancestral lake house.
Tales From the Set: This started out as a very strange set, but I went to the fitting and meet Faith from wardrobe who was so optimistic that I didn’t let the location of the shoot bother me that much.. Faith did point out that this shoot was closed and it would just be crew and talent, that included me! This was my first gig as a real Day Player and ended up being just me and the lead doing the opening credits.
I drove into the city and parked under one of the more popular bridges in Portland. By this time my hip really hurt, and I couldn’t do much. The casting folks were really understanding and didn’t stop until I got settled on my mark and ready to go. This was my first solo scene with the lead of a major feature film and the casting folks really seemed to want me for this role.
As I was waiting for the cinematographer to decide just exactly where I was going to sit I had a chance to talk with the director and creator of this project Kyle Hausmann-Stokes. He is a very cool dude and we talked about his influence for the film as well as the difficulty of film making no matter the size. All projects seem to have very similar challenges to overcome. Either money, talent, or even weather it’s not that easy to get a project from camera to the silver screen!
Sonequa Martin-Green was the lead actor on the project and who I had the privilege of working with for a day. It was really great to see a professional Actor in action and she even gave me a round of applause after cut. Faith was right it was a fun shoot!
2022 Feature Film – Little Wing- Cast in large group at HS Gym
A 13-year-old girl is dragged into the world of pigeon racing as she deals with her parents’ divorce and the impending loss of her home.
Tales From the Set: This was the most Actors I ever worked with at once. So many board Actors together jammed into one place. Enough to fill up a high School Gymnasium and I’m not sure they even used it. It was a long shoot with cold cheese sandwiches and a lot of waiting around! I did get to see about 10 people that were huddled over the electrical outlets like cold birds on a wire. It was truly an experience.
2020 Music Video One Republic: Rescue Me
Located in Silverton Oregon that’s about an hours drive from Portland. I was hired as an extra for this music video and there is a terrific behind the scenes video where I’m in frame 2:48 – 2:51! Its only 3 seconds but ill take it!
Tales From the Set: Now this one was a BLAST! I’ll never forget this shoot. I’m not really sure who the production company was that hired me, but I do know the check didn’t bounce and it was the first time I got to see a camera on a suspension gimbal. It was like taking one of the large cameras used in a studio and strapping it onto a curved iron bar with a whole separate suspension built into it. It was crazy!
The production company was operating out of a couple of box trucks and 18 wheeler dry vans, but it worked! It was odd seeing all of this high end equipment squeezed in between these suburban houses in the heart of Silverton Oregon!
The premise was the background Actors are attending a backyard party sometimes in the 80’s. A kid is getting bullied and is being chased when a fence falls down to reveal all of us hanging out and listening to the band! It was very cool to see the Crew in action. Putting out fires as they start and keeping everyone motivated and on point.
As I was eating lunch with the other background Actors it was an opportunity to talk with the other Actors on set like Conner Deadrick, Ed Bossert and Zech Hinds who were the bullies in the video about some of their experiences, the stuff they have worked on before, and listen as the other Actors trade their own Tales From The Set!
Then it was back to business as we sat around a backyard BBQ and wait for the fence to fall down. It was a really original take on 80’s style but it worked. The video was a lot of fun and I guess really good for the band.
After the shoot I was walking away from the trucks for a moment alone when I had the chance to meet Drew Brown the bass player who, with one sentence from me, was able to identify me as a Yinzer. Or a person from Pittsburgh for those who are not familiar.
We talked about PDX and about how his wife is from Pittsburgh. He talked about how he found the city to be strange but very cool and exciting. After a couple of cigarettes he went back to set and I caught a cab home. Drew was a very understated and cool dude who you would never assume was in an AMAZING band!
2019 NETFLIX – Trinkets – Cast eating in a mall food court
An unexpected friendship forms when three teenage girls meet in Shoplifters Anonymous
Tales From the Set: ‘Were not sure about the outfits so bring 3 or 4” the message read. So, I stuffed my kit bag full of clothes and off I went to meet everyone under the big white tent. After watching the folks who’ve worked at this a couple of time it became clear that 3 or 4 outfits were way over what they needed. Then we had to walk up to the mall where we were shooting and bring everything with you!
We all meet inside an unfinished store in a smaller mall outside of Portland. I got to meet a bunch of Actors who have worked in Portland and some of the cool stuff they did. One person was in a bunch of commercials for a large casino and others had stories of larger productions like GRIMM that would regularly shoot here. Like I said these jobs don’t come along everyday, you have to keep working at it.
As for the wardrobe request I really overestimated what they wanted, and man was I paying the price. I really didn’t want to carry this thing back to the production tent, so I hit up my best friend and most reliable of co producers SDZ! She really came to my rescue and swung by my table on set and grabbed this bag of stuff so I dint have to lug it all over this little mall. I learned less about Acting and more about how much my wife loves me on that set on that day.
2019 HULU – SHRILL – Cast in a group of people walking
A woman seeks out ways to change her life without changing her body.
Tales From the Set: We were still kinda new to the area of se so when I was chosen and directed to meet all of the other extras under a huge white canvas tent in the parking lot of one of the largest malls in Portland the Clackamas Town CTR.
I meet the other Actors and they said that yes this was totally normal. We will be asked to meet in parking lots, in shipping ports, and just about any outdoor scenery you can think of. So being asked to travel into the high desert for a morning shoot is just part of being a background Actor or even a Day Player in the Pacific North West!
This was the first Acting job that an agency hired me to do and with the support of my favorite Producer SDZ, it was one of the first steps I had to take to become a working actor in PDX and the beginning of my journey of becoming IMDB credited and SAG-AFTRA registered member in Portland Oregon.
Inside the Clackamas Center……….
We stood in a group and after about 2 hours later were directed to stand in front of one store and then walk back and forth outside another as the main Actors were filmed inside of this tiny boutique. It was my first opportunity to see the pro cameras and equipment as well as the people and process of a large professional shoot!
To see it all come together is really an inspiration and one of the things that motivates me to this day. I may have not gone to film school, but I have a tremendous amount of respect for the people that do and have gone on to produce some amazing stuff, however using experience as the best teacher we did project after project and learned a little bit more each time.
After producing a really impressive cannon of work my partner SDZ and I have learned by our shared experiences how to produce some great moments and ideas on film. Now we get to share our vision, as well that of the Actors /Crew who lend us their time and talent, with all of you!
HAUNT Distraction Scare / Voice Actor.
2018 -2023 Cinema of Horrors / C.O.H. Drive in –
Scene Actor with a Dual Specialty in Fear!
As a scene Actor it was my job to distract the group of unsuspecting folk as the other Actors do the jump scare and creep stalking that ever haunted house needs. I did 3 seasons in front of the hotel and even did a couple of specialty haunts like Hearts of Horror and whatever the Christmas theme was. One year we even did a St. Patrick’s themed Haunt and that was twisted!
When COVID threatened our little haunt in Kelso Washington “the worlds truck stop” we had to come up with something quick. If we remain idle for just 1 season the chances of there being a next season are dim.
So we put our heads together and SDZ asked Why not a Drive In?”
Great idea but some things had to fall into place for that to happen. Luckily for the owner of this haunt they hired a very smart and well connected person by the name of Amy and she is the one who negotiated our spot in Rich field WA Clark County Fairgrounds that still plays host to this haunt to this day.
We had to plan the whole thing out like using shipping containers to create the space we want and not settle with spots out of need.
That settles the COVID problem and the Haunt was saved!
As for COVID and how we got people to abide by the restrictions. We filmed a 10 minute spot of me in character and outlined every COVID guideline that America had to throw at us!
This 10 min film outlined the what when and where are the important things like bathrooms and food. I was even able to give a shout out to the vendors at the end. I may no longer be with that Haunt but the drive in uses that 10 min COVID film to this day.
Another cool duty at the Haunted Drive In was doing the announcements. I set up a microphone in the projector tent and would do announcements and funny dialog between movies and after the show I would do the announcements and guide people out of the parking lot. We even had a line in there about our wandering Electro Man who jumps cars!
The Haunt was a cool family of Actors who I miss dearly and who knows maybe you’ll be seeing Mr, Siegle this Halloween at a Haunt near you!
